On December 17, 2010, I joined I joined a group of educators, including Milken Educator Kristie Clark, for a fabulous luncheon sponsored by the Maine Coalition for Excellence in Education. All of the Teacher of the Year semifinalists, National Board certified teachers, and other distinguished educators in Maine were recognized for their dedication to the profession. I am honored to be part of such a passionate group of educators!

In the morning, I attended a meeting of the Coalition where I learned about their Prepare Maine initiative. The MCEE is comprised of professionals with a desire to improve the quality of education in our state. Their mission is to help Maine ensure that all children have access to quality educational programs, that all students graduate from college prepared for life, and that more Maine graduates earn a college degree. The Coalition is currently focusing their efforts on consistent early learning opportunities, standards-based, personalized learning (my passion) for all Maine children, increasing parent engagement in our state and the need for Maine students to be prepared for the 21st century (college, career, citizenship and life). For more information about their work on behalf of Maine learners visit www.preparemaine.org

I appreciate the Coalition's invitation to be a voice for Maine educators!
